Overview

An appliance describes its capabilities, authenticates, reports measurements with units and provenance, and accepts commands from the host. It initiates nothing else.

Why declare capabilities rather than a product type

Declaring capabilities is what lets the host support an appliance it has never seen. It is the move USB HID and Bluetooth GATT made, applied to health measurement.
